Jamaica a star of the Caribbean is renowned for its lovely beaches (long stretches of white sands), great tourist attractions, music and particularly that of Bob Marley’s reggae music. Despite its socio-economic problems the country stands tall in high end services such as that of Information Technology.
Yes, Jamaica is holding it’s own among the movers and shakers of the world. Travelers on Jamaican roads especially visitors to the island, will have a stress free time navigating their way around the highways and byways of the island. Yes we can plan our routes or change our route while on a planned journey. The fold up paper maps can be put aside now. No more driving and reading maps ….. Hooray!
Thanks to Mona Geoinformatics Institute, the GPS (global positioning system) is being introduced. Thursday March 5, 2009 at the Kingston Hilton Hotel at 6:00pm in the afternoon, Mona GIS will launch their recently developed GPS Navigation unit programmed by the institution.
This is truly a blessing to those of us who are still not familiar with the new roadways, particularly those leading to the vacation spots. This global navigation satelite system developed by the United States Department of Defence, previously couldnt be used in the island since they weren’t programmed for Jamaica. It’s also good that though pre-programmed units can be purchased at MGI, units purchased elsewhere can be taken in and programmed as desired.
Kudos to Mona GIS! http://www.monagis.com
