Congratulations to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (SFP) and Veronica Campbell-Brown (VCB) on their Olympic gold and bronze medal wins in the 100m finals. SFP ran 10.75 taking gold at a slightly slower time to her 10:70 at the Jamaica National Trials in June 2012, while VCB bronzed her way in 10:81, her season best.
More great performances today came from other stellar Jamaican athletes. Jermaine Gonzales ran 6th in Round 1 Heat 7 in 46.21 and Rusheen McDonald 4th in Heat 1 Round 1 in 46.67, the 10th and 13th best of the 24 non-qualifying times in the men’s 400m, respectively. Dayne Hyatt advanced to the semi-finals finishing 4th in Round 1 Heat 3 in 45.14

For the women, Kerron Stewart ran 4th at 11.04 in her 100m heat 3 semi-final, just barely missing a qualifying time of 11.01 for the 8th spot in the women’s 100m final.
Christine Day finished 4th in her 400m semi-finals heat with a time of 51.19, the second best non-qualifying time. Stalwarts Novlene Williams-Mills and Rosemarie Whyte secured their place in the 400m final for Sunday, August 5, 2012 after winning their semi-finals heat in 49.91 and 50.98 respectively.
Jamaica’s medal count is expected to rise again on Sunday, August 5, 2012. Novelene Williams-Mills goes into the women’s 400m finals with the 3rd best time and the triple threat men Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell, names already written in history – three men against the world, in the men’s 100m semi-finals and final. Can we say gold, silver, bronze – #TeamJamaica wi seh!
